Camera compatibility
Horus connects to camera streams that the on-site Windows computer can reach. For most CCTV systems, that means RTSP. USB cameras can connect directly to the computer.
| Camera setup | Compatibility | What is required |
|---|---|---|
| IP camera with RTSP | Supported | A reachable RTSP stream URL |
| ONVIF IP camera | Supported | RTSP enabled on the camera |
| NVR or DVR channel | Usually supported | An RTSP stream for each channel |
| USB camera or webcam | Supported locally | Connected to the Windows computer |
| Analogue camera only | Adapter required | A DVR or NVR that exposes an IP stream |
| Cloud-only camera | Check first | Local RTSP or ONVIF access |
Before you install
- Confirm that the camera or recorder provides an RTSP stream.
- Check that the Windows computer can reach the camera on the local network.
- Have the camera username, password, and stream URL available.
What stays on site
Video is processed by Horus Desktop on the Windows computer. Horus sends operational events and service health data to the dashboard, not the camera footage.
Not sure about your camera?
Check the camera manual for RTSP or ONVIF support. You can also email support@horusapp.io with the camera or recorder model.
